The South End Neighborhood

The South End is conveniently located only minutes from Downtown Boston and close to Northeastern University, Berkeley College of Music, Emerson and Boston University School of Medicine.  It is home to young families, professionals and immigrants. The area is also very popular with the lesbian and gay community of the city.  The neighborhood has many trendy restaurants and cocktail lounges and has an upscale atmosphere.  There are many parks scattered all over the South End.   In the early 70’s the South End was listed in the National Register of Historic Places and has the largest well preserved Victorian row house districts in the country.

The South End is chic and sophisticated with many shops and galleries. Strolling on the streets of the South End it is common to find unique shops some of which cater to pet oriented bakeries. The neighborhood has a cult following due to its canny culinary scene with a nuance of flavors. During the warm weather many of the eaters and coffee shops offer outside seating which makes it a great place to sit back relax and people watch.

Accessing the South End– The neighborhood is bordered by Back Bay, Chinatown and Roxbury and is accessible via the Green Line, (Arlington, Copley Stops) and the Orange Line.  There are also many bus lines as well as the Back-Bay Amtrak trains and MBTA commuter rail.


Need Parking in the South End? – Due to its proximity to Downtown many residents chose not to have cars. There is resident permit parking in the neighborhood and some brown stones offer parking. Additionally, residents can make exclusive arrangements with parking space owners to pay a monthly fee for a parking space.
