The Mission Hill Neighborhood

The Mission Hill section of Boston is an ethnically and economically diverse neighborhood that has strong sense of community.  This area is home to many students and medical professionals due to its close proximity to the Longwood Medical Center and to Northeastern UniversityMCPHSWheelock CollegeWentworth Institute of Technology, and Simmons College just to name a few. With so many hospitals and universities within close walking proximity the number of residents has grown drastically in the neighborhood.  Mission Hill cover one square mile from Boston’s downtown business district.  At least one quarter of Mission Hill is made up of the Longwood Medical Area and the largest concentration of jobs outside of Boston business district.  The area is home to many triple-decker, new condos, and brick row houses which gives the area a unique architectural aura.  


Huntington Avenue also known as the “Avenue of the Arts” and Tremont Street are the epicenter of Mission Hill with many restaurants and shops.  There are many casual ethnic restaurants and university café/bars that are known for serving the best beer, burger and fries in the city.  The neighborhood is also a stronghold for the arts and home to the Museum of Fine Arts and Massachusetts College of Art. The Boston SymphonyIsabella Steward Gardener Museum and the Boston Conservatory are both located on Huntington Avenue. These cultural landmarks add great appeal to the neighborhood. The area also boasts many community gardens and is host to an annual road race.  There is always room for the residents of Mission Hill to find the type of social entertainment that suits their taste.  


Accessing Mission Hill – Mission Hill is bounded by Roxbury to the east, Ruggles Street to the northeast and Riverway / Jamaicawayand the town of Brookline to the west.  The area is easily accessible by MBTA: Green Line (E train) to Brigham Circle; or the Orange Line to Roxbury Crossing.  The # 39 bus from Back Bay Station stops at the MFA, Mass College of Art, and Brigham Circle; the # 66 Bus from Harvard Square to Dudley Station stops in Brigham Circle and in from of Mission Church.   

 Need Parking in Mission Hill? – Although many residents choose to not have cars while living in a convenient in Mission Hill, there are a range of parking options available depending on the specific neighborhood and living situation.  There is resident permit parking and metered parking some neighborhood streets. There are also large lots that provide overnight parking on either a nightly or monthly basis.
