Allston, located on the western outskirts of Boston, is a young, energetic, and diverse student neighborhood. Accessing Allston – Allston is easily accessed from all directions by various modes of transportation. Allston boasts a number of quality commuter options. Students can get to class quickly and professionals can commute to work smoothly while living in Allston. The MBTA’s Green Line B branch provides multiple outdoor stops in the heart of Allston and all along Commonwealth Ave, and the MBTA Green Line C branch provides multiple area stops along nearby Beacon Street in Brookline. In 2017 Allston’s first MBTA Commuter Rail Station, named Boston Landing Station, opened at the new Boston Landing development along the Massachusetts Turnpike, providing another convenient commuter option to Downtown for Allston apartment renters. Numerous MBTA bus routes also service the various neighborhoods of Allston. Access to the Massachusetts Turnpike is via Cambridge Street in Lower Allston, less than 1 mile away. Logan Airport is less than 15 minutes by car via the “Mass Pike”. Commonwealth Avenue (Route 20), and Beacon Street provide easy access to/from nearby Kenmore Square, Fenway, and Downtown Boston. Allston’s proximity to all of its neighboring college campuses and to Downtown Boston allows many students and young professionals to ride bicycles, or walk, to classes and to work.

Need Parking in Allston? – Although many students choose to not have cars while living in a convenient Allston apartment, there are a range of parking options available in Allston, depending on the specific neighborhood and the living situation. Many residences have driveways or designated parking spaces. Side roads provide overnight parking for residents. There is metered parking on all the main streets of Allston Village, and Commonwealth Avenue providing free parking in its many non-metered spaces. Allston Real Estate & Allston Housing Market – Despite the neighborhood’s extreme popularity among young professionals and students from Boston University, Boston College, Harvard University, and other colleges, Allston apartment rental pricing is viewed as “affordable” on a relative basis (compared to most other neighborhoods in Boston). Allston apartments are relatively affordable because it is a dense neighborhood with a high concentration of rental properties.

The style and quality of real estate in the Allston Village area varies greatly, both for rental property and owner-occupied homes, which has allowed a variety of residents to find the rental or home that suits their tastes and budgets. In the Allston Village area, brick apartment buildings of anywhere between 2 and 8 stories are quite common and popular among renters, especially along Commonwealth Avenue and the streets stemming from it. Side streets in the area consist primarily of 2-level multi-family houses, some of which are rented annually to groups, and some of which have long-term owner-occupants. On the for owned/for sale property side, newly constructed luxury condos are being added to the Allston housing inventory each year. Also, some property owners are choosing to renovate their properties, some of them into luxury condos, which is gradually elevating the overall quality of Allston apartments for rent or sale.
